Roman Roads at Night

It all began when my partner bought a copy of this map of the Roman road network to print for our wall. We already had another map poster with a white background in our bedroom and we thought it would be great to change the new map colours to match those of the night tube. And since we were messing with it anyway, we decided it was a good idea to make a wallpaper out of it too. The work was mostly in re-capturing and ordering the layers back from the PDF we bought from the artist. Once it was all named and in good order, I changed the colours following the night tube palette, and added a few more shapes and names to the map, based on my partner’s research, to make it fit standard wallpaper dimensions. It turned out that the Caspian sea was never really under Roman rule, so finding a name for it was more of a creative than authentic process.
